The International Experience

“Individuals must, and can, now ask: where do I fit into the global competition and opportunities of the day, and how can I, on my own, collaborate with others globally?”
Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat

Students from 100 Countries
UNL is truly diverse campus with nearly 2,000 international students representing 100 countries. There are about 30 different international student organizations that remain active on campus and provide an opportunity for cultural exchanges throughout the year.

Organizations & Events
Visit about 100 countries of the world without leaving UNL campus. Almost every month, international student organizations put on campus-wide events in celebration of their cultures. For example:

  • Malaysian Night
  • Chinese New Year
  • International Food Bazaar

Cultural Ambassadors
By helping international students to get oriented to campus, planning trips in the USA and other activities, Cultural Ambassadors have a unique opportunity to interact with their international friends.

English Conversation Partners
Join the English Conversation Partner program and help an international student improve his or her English. No lesson plans needed. No dictionaries required. Just have conversations over a cup of coffee or a delicious authentic dinner with your international conversation partner. It's a great way to make a difference in somebody's life by just speaking your native language.

Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students
Join Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students and host an international student at your home. Students can participate by hosting international students over holiday breaks. You will be amazed at how much fun your entire family will have by spending time with your international friend...or two!
