The Alumni Association has for the past 12 years sponsored an event for eighth graders in Nebraska who have demonstrated academic talent and a high level of participation in school activities. The Breakfast for Champions program allowed school counselors and teachers from across Nebraska to nominate students to be honored at a May breakfast event at the Devaney Sports Center on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus.

We greatly appreciate your support and partnership in honoring such talented students. The program has been a success in that more than one-third of the participating students become students at UNL. However,due to budget restrictions for the Association and some of our partnering sponsors, we are discontinuing the program in its current format, and wanted to let you know now that there will not be a Breakfast for Champions in May 2009.

We are in the process of working to re-format the program for the coming years, and hope to be able to honor outstanding students in sixth grade in 2010. We will keep you informed as we move ahead. Thank you for your ongoing interest and support.
