NCPA Summer Science Camp
The 2010 NCPA summer science camps are currently in the planning phase.
To get a glimpse of what NCPA Scholars do during a camp, please refer to the 2009 NCPA Camp Summary
2009 NCPA Camp Summary
NCPA scholars participated in a 2-day science camp at the University
of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL). Scholars had the opportunity study,
research, and manipulate DNA using the same tools and techniques as scientists.
Here are some of the exciting labs the NCPA Scholars experienced:
- Insert a jellyfish gene that produces fluorescent green protein into bacteria
during the pGlo™ Bacterial Transformation lab
- Use real-world forensic techniques to extract DNA from cheek cells
and fingerprint their own DNA
- Play the role of crime scene investigators and use real DNA to solve a
mystery
All labs were held at UNL’s Beadle Center, a state-of-the art center
for learning and research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology,
molecular genetics, microbiology and other subjects related to the life sciences.
NCPA students also experienced college life by living and dining in one
of UNL’s Residence Halls, participating in recreational activities, and
leadership programs.
All Camps were be supervised by NCPA staff.
