Suggested Courses to Remove UNL Admission Deficiencies For Students who Graduated High School January 1997 or Later


Units Required for Admission Courses to clear the deficiency [one community college course = one unit (year) of high school work]

English: 4 units
intensive reading & writing experience

  • ENGL 1100 Composition I
  • ENGL 1150 Intro to Literature

Foreign Language: 2 units
in one language

  • AMIS 1650 Ho-Chunk Language II (some students may need to complete AMIS 1600 to prepare for AMIS 1650; 1650 is the course which will fulfill the UNL admission deficiency).

Mathematics: 4 units
Algebra I

Geometry

Algebra II
A fourth year that builds on algebra

  • Algebra I : MATH 1050 Intro. Algebra
  • Geometry: (not available) [Please contact UNL's admissions office regarding options.]
  • Algebra II: MATH 1060 Intermediate Algebra
  • Fourth Year Math (course that builds upon Algebra II): MATH 1150-College Algebra OR MATH1250 Pre Calculus Algebra

Natural Sciences: 3 units
At least 2 from biology, chemistry, physics & earth sciences.
At least one lab.

If you are deficient in a lab, you MUST take a science course that has a lab.

  • BIOS 1100 Biology for General Education (does not have a lab)
  • BIOS 1300 Plant Biology (does not have a lab)
  • BIOS 1500 Biology Concepts (has a lab)
  • CHEM 1100 Chemistry for General Education (does not have a lab)
  • CHEM 1200 General Chemistry I (has a lab)
  • PHYS 1200 Fundamentals of Physics (has a lab)

Social Sciences: 3 units
One or 2 units History AND 1 or 2 units American government, geography or one other social science

  • GEOG 1100 Cultural Geography
  • HIST 1300 World Civilization I
  • HIST 1350 World Civilization II
  • HIST 1500 U.S. History I
  • HIST 1550 U.S. History II
  • POLS 1100 American Government
  • SOCI 1100 Introduction to Sociology
  • SOCI 1500 Intro to Cultural Anthropology
  • SOCI 2600 Social Problems

Note: Your UNL college will determine whether or not courses used to meet admission requirements can also apply toward your UNL degree requirements.
