Academics

As a Jones Scholar, you will connect with faculty, staff and other students who share your academic interests. Taking courses as a community and being closely connected with other students will help you form informal study groups and receive support when class projects are due or exams are scheduled.

Leadership

Outside of the classroom, Melvin Jones Scholars actively seek enrichment through service, cultural experiences and outreach. Participating students are strongly encouraged to:

  • Volunteer for group community service projects
  • Attend Lied Center for Performing Arts cultural events
  • Organize the learning community regional trip
  • Play important student roles in selected University recruitment events
  • Participate in Jones Scholars alumni student organization events
  • Become active in various student organizations across campus

Community

Jones Scholars benefit from their ability to make connections early during their University experience. As a participant, you will:

  • Know other students in your classes and in extracurricular activities, making it easier to get to know students with similar interests
  • Have opportunities to explore your interests with faculty and staff
  • Attend a variety of career-related events
  • Will have opportunities to work with community leaders
