PROGRAM DEFINITION:
Two phases:
Veterinary technician and veterinary technolog
Start the program in either phase.
Veterinary technician phase:
Complete a veterinary technician Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program at an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician school. UNL does not have an AAS–degree granting program in veterinary technology on its Lincoln campus.
Pass the national veterinary technician certification examination.
Veterinary technology phase:
- Enroll at UNL in one of three options.
- Transfer credits from the veterinary technician phase to UNL.
- Complete BS requirements at UNL.
- Earn a BS degree from UNL.
Program options.
- Veterinary Science Option: for students interested in going to veterinary school. Qualify to apply to any veterinary school in North America (see Preveterinary Medicine Red Bar for more information).
- Science Option: for students interested in a career in veterinary science, but not as a veterinarian. Prepare for a career in veterinary science demanding more extensive knowledge than that obtained in the veterinary technician phase.
- Business Option: for students interested in veterinary science and management. Prepare for a career in veterinary science demanding more extensive knowledge of business and management than that obtained in the veterinary technician phase.

- Take courses not available at any other college or university in Nebraska Learn about animal health and diseases from scientists and veterinarians studying and diagnosing animal diseases. Learn about animals from animal scientists studying animal production and animal products.
- Gain experience in veterinary and animal production research, veterinary diagnostic services, and animal care as a student employee.
- Socialize and learn from other students interested in veterinary or biomedical as a career.

UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING: You will be assigned a faculty member who can help you examine your interests and abilities, define your career goals, and plan your academic career so you will qualify to apply to the college(s) of veterinary medicine of your choice and/or earn a BS degree.

In addition, you must:
rank in the top half of your high school class OR
have an ACT composite score of 20 or higher OR
