In-state Freshman Scholarships

Many of these awards are awarded by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid on rolling basis to Fall Semester applicants. All new first-time freshmen who apply for admission by January 15 will be considered for these scholarships. Awards will be based on each applicant's academic record, including sixth semester class rank and ACT or SAT scores as of December. Some of these scholarships require an additional application form.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Chancellor’s Scholarship
    Students who are finalists in nationally recognized scholarship competitions (e.g. National Merit Scholarship) are eligible for consideration for full tuition coverage plus a $2,000 stipend annually (Scholarship is applicable for up to four years with three inclusive summers).
  • Regents Scholarship
    Full tuition up to 135 credit hours inclusive of all University of Nebraska credit;including approved study abroad and Extended Education credit. A select group of Regents Scholars will also receive a Top Scholar stipend of $1,500 for up to four years.
  • David Distinguished Scholarship
    $1,000 per year, renewable up to four years
  • Canfield Scholarship
    $1,000 freshman year only

LEADERSHIP AND SPECIALTY SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management Scholarship
    May include the following: room (in the Kauffman Center) and board, and books (through the Honors Program Textbook Scholarship). This requires an additional application after applying for admission. Application is due no later than November 15.
  • Honors Program Scholarship
     A limited number of Textbook Scholarships in the amount of $250 per semester, fall and spring semesters only, for up to 135 credit hours, four years, or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first. This scholarship requires the completion of an additional application. Application is due November 15 (early notification) or March 1.
  • Chancellor's Leadership Class Scholarship
    $1,000 freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. This scholarship requires the Résumé form.
  • Pepsi Service Scholarship
    $1,000 freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. This scholarship requires the Résumé form
  • University Bookstore Scholarship
    Amount varies, freshman year only. This scholarship requires the Résumé form.

DIVERSITY ENHANCEMENT FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Davis-Chambers Scholarship
    From $2,000 up to the full direct cost of attendance, renewable up to four years. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Health Sciences Scholarship
    Equal to or greater than full tuition of freshman year. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Native American Heritage Scholarship
    $2,000 up to the full direct cost of attendance, renewable for up to four years. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Summer Institute for Promising Scholars Award
    Tuition, fees, books, room/board, and part-time employment during the summer term prior to the first fall semester of enrollment; $1,000 for first year of enrollment. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship
    Tuition and fees up to $3,200 per semester and a textbook allowance of $400 per semester for undergraduate students attending UNL and other public institutions in Nebraska. Apply by March 1. Apply at: buffettscholarships.org
